Annette Vera Ammons, also known as “Tish” to her family, was a vibrant spirit who brought joy and love to those around her. Born June 17, 1947, in Long Branch, New Jersey, Annette lived a life filled with devotion, not just to her family but her community and faith. She passed away at her residence on August 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Annette was a graduate of Belle Center High School in 1965. She married Glenn Ammons on February 24, 1968, and they raised three children. Annette worked in the fields, fed farmers and later became a school bus driver, classroom aide, and librarian for Benjamin Logan Local Schools. She had a passion for learning and decided to continue her education at Sinclair Community College, earning her degree in American Sign Language. That degree led her to a career she cherished as an Educational Interpreter for Benjamin Logan Schools, Jackson Center Schools and Upper Scioto Valley Schools.
Annette was a devoted wife and mother. A source of strength and encouragement, she continuously prayed for her family and offered messages of love and support. She made it a priority to attend every event her grandchildren were in if she could. Annette wasn’t just a mother; she was a nurturer who made her family feel cherished.
Annette is survived by her beloved husband Glenn and her three children Brian (Nikki) Ammons of Deltona, Florida, Corey (Suzanne) Ammons of Upper Arlington, OH, and Kristen (Jacob) Johnson of Belle Center, OH. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Cheyenne (Aiden) Heidel, Edison Ammons, Jonah Ammons, Elliott Ammons, Kalia Ammons, Kiarra Ammons, Katana Ammons, Lydia Johnson, Joel Johnson, Eva “Birdie” Johnson and one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Brown.
Annette’s love for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She took pride in her yard and gardens, always finding joy in nature. An adventurous soul, she enjoyed skiing from Mad River Mountain to international slopes in Switzerland and Austria. She traveled to beautiful places, including France, Germany, and Italy, and cherished family boating at Indian Lake and water-skiing trips to Lake Cumberland.
Annette was a member of the Belle Center Cornerstone Church where she shared her God given voice, led the children’s music, and helped work with the children at the Sunshine Center. Her kind and loving spirit ensured that everyone she met felt special and recognized. Each June, Annette would host a summer tea party for her grandchildren, children in the church and friends of the family. Crafts, swimming and good food were always on the agenda for a great time.
Annette fought a brave battle against Parkinson’s disease the last 14 years of her life. She enjoyed attending the walk for Parkinson’s at the Crew Stadium when able with her family and her team, “Eagle’s Wings”, by her side. She cherished the friendships of those she met along the journey.
Preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence B. and Ruth Miriam (Neuman) Carmer and sister, Ruthie Heminger, Annette leaves behind a network of family that includes Phil Heminger, Steve Ammons, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Throughout her life, Annette loved and cared for many pets, with Fergus being her faithful companion until the end.
