A Kenton man sustained serious injuries late Tuesday night, March 17, after being struck while working on a disabled vehicle in the 3600 block of County Road 9.

Todd Spears, 56, was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.

Spears was lying in the southbound lane of C.R. 9 about 10:50 p.m. attempting repairs to a broken-down vehicle when he was struck by a southbound 2009 Ford operated by Richie Austin, 52, of Rushsylvania.

After striking Spears, the Ford also collided with a parked 2004 Honda operated by Brieona Spears, 30, of Perrysburg, which was facing northbound in the southbound lane.

A young boy who was a passenger in the Honda was transported by Rushcreek EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for possible injuries. He was reportedly in a child safety seat in back seat at the time of the crash.

The Honda sustained disabling damage and was towed. The Ford had functional damage.

Deputies report the disabled vehicle did not have any lights activated at the time of the crash.

Austin reportedly swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision.

No citations were issued for the crash.
