Advanced engineering work taking place in Logan County is helping Team USA chase Olympic success.
Located in East Liberty, the Honda Automotive Laboratories of Ohio (HALO) wind tunnel served as the site of months of advanced aerodynamic testing that helped Team USA’s bobsled and skeleton athletes prepare for international competition.
Over the past six months, Honda engineers collaborated with coaches and athletes from USA Bobsled & Skeleton, using state-of-the-art wind tunnel analysis to refine sled aerodynamics, athlete positioning and overall performance. The work supported preparations for the recent World Cup season and the Olympic Winter Games.
“When you work with a team like Honda and see the number of engineers that are here to support our program, along with the facilities we’re working in, it really gets us excited about what we can possibly do for our athletes,” said Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled & Skeleton.
Insights gained during testing in East Liberty were later carried into fall training sessions at the Utah Olympic Parktrack in Park City, Utah. The data helped shape competitive strategies before the team departed for international competition.
The collaboration is featured in a documentary that explores how engineering analysis conducted at the HALO wind tunnel translated into on-track gains, with both organizations sharing the goal of achieving faster times and podium finishes.
“For a company like Honda to invest in and believe in your dreams—that’s when incredible things happen,” said Kaysha Love, a Team USA bobsledder and Team Honda athlete ambassador. “Now the conversation is about the edge we’ve found and how it’s powering our dream of becoming Olympic champions.”
Mike Unger, director of the HALO Wind Tunnel, said the partnership reflects Honda’s long-standing performance-driven culture.
“Acura and Honda have a deep heritage of racing, and within that core, we always challenge ourselves to win,” Unger said. “We’re proud to use that spirit and capability to support USA Bobsled and Skeleton athletes.”
Honda is the official automotive partner of Team USA, supporting both the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams for the Milano Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Acura serves as the official automotive partner of USA Bobsled & Skeleton.
Honda has maintained a strong presence in Ohio for decades, with manufacturing, research and development operations across the state. Facilities such as the HALO wind tunnel in East Liberty highlight how Ohio-based innovation continues to play a role on the global stage — including in elite international sports competition.
