CITY BEAT: One arrested, one cited in store theft

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating recent theft incidents reported at Walmart, 2281 S. Main St.

Police said officers responded Jan. 19 after store personnel reported two individuals passing the final point of sale with unpaid merchandise.

Officers recovered food items and clothing valued at $114.78.

Trestin Douglas Downing Hoffer, 26, of Bellefontaine, was arrested at the scene, and Destiny Elaine Dick, also of Bellefontaine, was later issued a summons in connection with the incident.

A second theft was reported Jan. 21 after a Walmart employee observed an unidentified female removing tags from multiple items and leaving the store without paying.

Items believed to have been taken included wallets, children’s clothing, a women’s dress, toys, baby items and food products.

The suspect left before officers arrived, and the investigation remains pending.

• In a separate theft reported Jan. 21, police are investigating the reported removal of audio equipment from a residence in the 500 block of Albert Street. 

According to reports, a subwoofer was taken from a shed at the property. The victim told officers they believed the item was taken by a former roommate. 

That investigation also remains pending.

Non-injury crash reported

Police were disp to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 4:5o p.m. Jan. 22 at the intersection of Gunntown Road and the Walmart parking lot entrance.

Police said a Ford Escape and a Honda CR-V collided within the intersection as one vehicle attempted to cross Gunntown Road and the other attempted to turn onto the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

Both vehicles sustained functional damage.
