Indian Lake Schools announced the unexpected death of sixth-grade student, prompting an outpouring of support from the community.
Shawn Humphrey, 11, died Sunday morning, according to a Monday afternoon Indian Lake Schools Facebook post. Shawn was a sixth grader at Indian Lake and had joined the district at the start of the current school year along with his siblings.
Shawn is the son of Jristian Humphrey and Justice Oyer, and the stepson of Bailey Dickerson. All are graduates of Indian Lake High School.
Funeral arrangements were pending as of Monday afternoon.
District officials said mental health support services will be made available to students and staff when classes resume.
In a statement, Indian Lake Schools asked the community to keep the Humphrey family, as well as Shawn’s friends and teachers, in their thoughts and prayers during the difficult time.
