The Bellefontaine High School National Honor Society inducted 23 new members Wednesday night, Oct. 29, during a ceremony at the BHS Auditorium.

The new members are: Grace Brown, Curtis Butler III, Natilee Canter, Carter Caudill, Bryson Chrisman, Sutton Daring, Jaylinn Foulk, Ella Fultz, Drake Hoon, Halle Hunt, Sophia Jacobs, Lola Kuba, Ava Layman, Jaslene Maier, Summer Maley, Jacob Moreland, William Myers, Myles Sellars, Callie Shumaker, Spencer Stolly, Noah Torsell, Tristyn Wilson and Jared Young.

High school juniors and seniors must complete an application and write an essay to be considered for induction. Other requirements include a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and a minimum of 6 hours of community service each year in high school.

Students must also demonstrate the four pillars of NHS – Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Service.

The featured speaker was Bellefontaine High School music teacher Brice Henry, who graduated from BHS in 2011. He shared how a phrase he uses as an educator applies to lifelong learning.

Mr. Henry is known for telling his choir students, “You don’t know what you don’t know until you know that you don’t know it. And once you know that you don’t know it, work until you do.”

Henry said this mindset is his motivation for his teaching and how he lives his life.

He added, “I encourage the inductees to find the areas they can improve on to make their society and their circle of influence a little bit better.”

Michelle Rohrer is the Bellefontaine NHS adviser, and Kaeleigh Flora is the BHS NHS president.
