A simple solution to an obvious problem.
When Sue Moon of Indian Lake spent some time at Logan Acres (LA) Care Center, she and her husband, Tony, noticed a lot of things. How good the place was for retirees. How competent and kind the staff were. But one thing she noticed she decided they could do something about.
“While I was living here I realized how many residents can’t see,” she explained. “I thought if they could hear the books, that would help them read.”
With that in mind, the Moons have donated 20 iPads and an equal number of headphones to Logan Acres Senior Community and its sister property, The Homestead, which offers assisted apartment living.
For the staff at LA, this gift has additional benefits.
Pointing out that items like iPads aren’t covered by Medicare or Medicaid, Lorraine Fischio, LA administrator, said, “We’re very grateful. It’s a primary way for families to communicate when they’re out of town, and it’s an opportunity for us to teach residents how to use this kind of technology.”
Sue Moon had to stay at Logan Acres twice—once after a hip replacement and two years ago following brain surgery. Tony couldn’t say enough about the facility, stating, “We’re so fortunate to have a place like this in our community.”
This experience led the Moons, who once owned Tanger’s Furniture in Bellefontaine, to look for a way to support the senior center.
“I want other residents to feel as comfortable as I did here,” Sue concluded.
