A local motorist was cited Monday afternoon, Sept. 29, after he drove a pickup truck into a cornfield to avoid striking a stopped school bus.
Jeffrey A. Hoge, 59, of Russells Point, was driving a northbound 2015 Chevrolet Colorado in the 600 block of County Road 31 about 3:35 p.m. when he failed to see a stopped northbound school bus with its lights and stop sign activated, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report. Hoge then drove off the right side of the road into a cornfield to avoid striking the bus.
No injuries were reported.
A child was getting off the bus at the time of the incident.
Hoge was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
Damage to the pickup truck was minor.
