Williams reportedly was operating an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Malibu on C.R. 29 about 6 a.m. when he went off the left side of the road on a curve, striking the ditch and continued over the driveway at the property and into the pond.

Deputies said after Williams freed himself from the submerged car and then swam to the shore as emergency responders arrived on scene. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene.

The driver was cited for failure to control.

• Martin L. Bledsoe, 31, of Lima, also was cited for failure to control related to a single-vehicle non-injury crash Thursday evening, Sept. 25, on U.S. Route 33.

Deputies report he was operating a 2017 Kia Sorento in Zane Township about 6:50 p.m. when he lost control from water on the roadway and went off the right side of the road and struck a fence.

He was wearing his seat belt. Damage was moderate to the sport utility vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
