President Donald Trump, during an appearance on Fox and Friends Friday morning, said that “with a high degree of certainty” the suspected shooter of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk has been caught.
Law enforcement has not confirmed the suspect’s arrest, but a press confernece is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET.
The President said he was informed about the suspect’s arrest about five minutes before his 8 a.m. TV appearance.
Officials plead for help in finding Charlie Kirk’s shooter
Federal investigators and state officials on Thursday released a series of photos and a video of the person they believe is responsible for the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot as he spoke to a crowd gathered in a courtyard at Utah Valley University in Orem.
More than 7,000 leads and tips have poured in, officials said. But authorities have yet to name a suspect or cite a motive in the killing, the latest act of political violence to convulse the United States.
“We cannot do our job without the public’s help,” Gov. Spencer Cox said during a Thursday evening news conference with FBI Director Kash Patel, who did not speak. The direct appeal for public support appeared to signal law enforcement’s continued struggles.
$100k reward offered for info related to arrest of Kirk’s killer
OREM, Utah (AP) — The shooter who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk and then vanished off a roof and into the woods remained at large and authorities sought the public’s help by releasing photos of the person they believe is responsible.
Investigators obtained clues, including a palm print, a shoe impression and a high-powered hunting rifle found in a wooded area along the path the shooter fled. But they had yet to name a suspect or cite a motive in the killing they were treating as the latest act of political violence to convulse the United States across the ideological spectrum.
The photos of a person in a hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve black shirt, with a backpack, as well as a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest suggested that law enforcement thought tips from the public might be needed to crack the case. Two people who were taken into custody shortly after Wednesday’s shooting at Utah Valley University were later released, forcing officials to chase new leads on a separate person of interest they pursued Thursday.
