What started out as a probable traffic ticket turned into to a felony arrest for a Bellefontaine man Friday, Sept. 5.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department observed Austin K. Henry, 31, of Bellefontaine about 8 p.m. riding a motorcycle without required eye protection at the intersection of Main Street and Sandusky Ave.

Officers were able to follow Henry as he rode southbound on south Main Street, where he reportedly weaved in and out of traffic and, on nearing the city limits, made an illegal lane change. When an officer on the scene activated his lights to signal Henry to stop, Henry fled, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph while headed south on U.S. Route 68.

Other units were contacted of the chase, and Henry made a turn onto Township Road 190, hitting speeds above 70 mph before finally complying with officers and stopping his motorcycle approximately one-half mile from the U.S. Route 68 intersection.

Henry was arrested and charged with failure to comply/elude or flee, a felony of the fourth-degree, and reportedly verbally abused the officers as they took him to the Logan County Jail. Once at the jail, it was noted that Henry had no motorcycle endorsement or permit, information that was forwarded with the report of the incident to the Logan County Prosecutor for further disposition.

Suspected cocaine seized during stop

Ariel Hoisington, 30, of Bellefontaine was arrested Saturday evening, Sept. 6, after officers observed her driving erratically near the downtown area.

The report indicates that officers initiated the stop on near the 400 block of west Chillicothe Avenue at 11:34 p.m. after Hoisington was observed making an illegal turn and weaving in and out of marked lanes.

Once Hoisington was stopped, she got out of her car at the officer’s request and reportedly gave consent to a search of the vehicle, which revealed a baggie of suspected crack cocaine stuffed inside a cigarette packet.

Her behavior during this time as described by the officer as extremely jittery, and once she was arrested on the possession of drugs charge, her manic and unusual behavior continued as she submitted to field sobriety tests, a breathalyzer which came back negative and a urine sample.

Finding her too impaired to be driving, Hoisington was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs in addition to the drug possession charge.

Man lodged for disorderly conduct

Charles E. Martin, 39, or Ridgeway was arrested just after noon Friday after officers were dispatched to State Route 540 at the U. S. Route 33 interchange on the report of a male on foot who was stumbling along the overpass.

Police reported they found Martin on the overpass at about 12:21 p.m. in a  heavily intoxicated state. Noting that the overpass was a high traffic road with a 50 mph speed limit, officers feared for his safety and detained him. Martin reportedly became agitated when officers offered to allow someone to come pick him up and Martin refused, saying that he would rather be taken to jail.

Given his level of intoxication and the heavy traffic along the road, Martin was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and transported to the jail.

Police also reported the arrest of Howard S. Doseck, 64, of Bellefontaine Sunday, Sept. 7 at 5:05 p.m. on a failure to appear warrant.
