Our much loved son, husband, brother, and uncle, Todd Leasure, set out on his next great adventure on September 3, in Atlanta, Georgia, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
He was 57 — far too soon for us to say goodbye. Todd was the ultimate Gen Xer, graduating from Indian Lake High School in 1986. He kept his teachers on their toes, made lifelong friends, and embodied the spirit of the 80s with his black Trans Am and perfectly feathered hair.
After high school, Todd went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. He was deployed to the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War aboard the USS Forrestal. Following his military service, he spent time studying at The Ohio State University, where his lifelong love of the Buckeyes deepened even further.
He grew up in the small, close-knit town of Huntsville, Ohio—the kind of childhood every kid dreams of—running wild on dirt bikes, exploring with friends, and drinking straight from the hose on hot summer days. Todd and his crew made memories that lasted a lifetime.
Todd was blessed with an extraordinary partner in life, his wife and soulmate Tara. Married for more than 20 years, they shared a love that was deep, joyful, and unshakable. Tara was his rock and constant companion, especially during his illness, staying by his side through every moment. Though heartbroken, she takes comfort in the gift of having lived her life with her true love. They had the kind of marriage everyone dreams of—not without its struggles, but every challenge was outmatched by love and laughter.
Todd and Tara also shared a special love for their Dobermans. Working with a rescue shelter, they fostered dogs that often became part of their family, bringing them joy and companionship throughout Todd’s life.
A lifelong sports fan, Todd found joy in collecting and selling sports cards — passing down his knowledge (and bargaining skills!) to his nephews Rory and Wyatt. Together they learned the thrill of finding “the good cards” and sealing the deal.
Todd’s career reflected his natural charisma and talent for sales. He thrived while working with BLUFF Magazine during the poker boom of the 1990s. He loved the travel, the people, and of course, the game itself. Poker remained his favorite hobby, and holidays often meant spirited games where he passed down his bluffing secrets to the next generation.
Hunting was also a Leasure family tradition that Todd cherished. He spent countless fall days with his father, Roy; his grandfather, Roy Sr.; uncles; and close friends. He carried these traditions proudly, sharing them with his brother-in-law Jason and nephews, ensuring the next generation could carry them on.
As one of the world’s greatest Buckeye fans, we know Todd is cheering from above this season. GO BUCKS — let’s bring home a championship for Todd.
