Early bird registration ends Aug. 31

The Simon Kenton Pathfinders are hosting their 25th Annual Bike Tour on Sunday, Sept. 7, beginning at the Depot Coffee House in Urbana.

This annual fundraiser is dedicated to the late Betsy Bohl, a charter member and long time treasurer of the group.

This year is the 25th/Silver Anniversary of the tour and will feature some special logo items, as well as the normal food stops and routes.

Early bird registration pricing ends at midnight Aug. 31, after which registration fees increase by $15 through the day of the event. Kids ride free if registered with a participating adult by Aug. 31.

Complete online registration information with a link is available on the Pathfinders website: simonkentonpathfinders.org. There are also information brochures at the Depot Coffee House and all of the Simon Kenton Pathfingers trail heads.

For the bike tour, participants can choose from three different routes according to ability, roads vs. trail — a 15-mile route entirely on the trail; a 25-mile route which is a 50/50 mix of trail and back roads; and the long route, which is almost entirely roads and approximately 62 miles.

The long route this year features a challenging 11+ mile loop in the Zanesfield area, which was used for the 1980 USA Olympic Road trials.  “This will be the most difficult route we’ve ever had and is designed for the experienced cyclist,” Pathfinders members said of this long route.

In addition, there is a “virtual option” for those unable to ride on the event date.

The SKP Bike Tour is the largest annual fundraiser for the group each year and helps the Pathfinders to maintain about 28 miles of multi-use trail in Champaign and Logan counties.

The Pathfinders are a 501C3 non-profit which has built and maintained the Simon Kenton Trail since 1997.
