A Bellefontaine man is in jail following an incident at the Heritage Court Apartments at about 7:22 p.m. Monday, July 14.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to the 800 block of Heritage Court on the report of a male who was armed with a firearm and a knife while threatening a victim. While officers were investigating in the initial report, several witnesses alerted officers to an ongoing fight in a nearby building. As they approached, officers saw three men leaving the building, all of whom were detained on the scene and checked for weapons.
One of those detained, Frank H. Dick II, 44, of 540 Hamilton St., reportedly became aggressive and two officers were needed to get him under control and place him in handcuffs. By this time, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were called to and arrived at the scene, as the incident drew a crowd of residents and spectators.
After cooler heads prevailed, officers learned that both confrontations were likely part of an ongoing quarrel between individuals that started Sunday, July 13, with the issue spilling over again Monday evening at Heritage Court, necessitating that the police be called.
Officers report that on Monday evening, Dick threatened a victim with a knife, which a witness allegedly captured on video. Dick was arrested and charged with aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor, and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
No further arrests were made at the scene and no firearms were located, and other witness statements were taken as the crowd dispersed.
The police report, witness statements, and video from several body-worn cameras were forwarded the Bellefontaine Municipal Court Prosecutor’s Office for further consideration of charges.
– Police are also on the look out for a black 2019 Kia Soul, license plate number HDM8002, which was reported stolen from a Belle Meadows Dr. residence between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
There was no sign of broken glass near where the vehicle was parked and numerous personal items were in the vehicle.
Officers entered the vehicle in LEADS as being stolen.
