A Lakeview man stopped for speeding early Tuesday, June 24, was arrested for drunk driving near his home.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office twice clocked a speeding driver around 12:30 a.m. before initiating a traffic stop on Township Road 293.
Before the stop, radar checks showed the vehicle was traveling 53 mph in a 45 mph zone of State Route 235 and 46 mph in a 35 mph portion of T.R. 293.
Deputies detected an odor of alcohol from the driver, Dustin J. Brown, 38, and noted he had glassy eyes and slightly delayed speech.
Brown told deputies he had consumed six beers over the last few hours.
He also told deputies he was a combat veteran and that he just wanted to go home to his nearby Turkeyfoot residence.
Deputies performed field sobriety eye testing on Brown, who showed signs of impairment. The driver then refused to complete other required tests.
A search of Brown’s vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, yielded open containers of alcohol.
Brown, whose license is currently suspended for non-compliance, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He also was cited for speeding, driving under suspension and open container.
The suspect was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
He was belligerent at times with deputies and with jail staff during the arrest process, according to reports.
