Homeless man charged with assault

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report that Thomas Lee Neeley, 61, at large, was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail following an incident near the area of the 800 block of north Main Street Monday, May 12.

Police report that Neeley and the victim are homeless and have been living in tents in the wooded area near the 800 block of north Main Street. 

Officers were dispatched to the area at about 4:30 p.m. Monday where they found and separated Neeley and the victim. Officers noted dried blood on Neeley’s clothes that was believed to be the victim’s and in their report said that that Neeley admitted that he “beat the brakes” off the victim, who was found to have visible, bloody injuries to his face and left ear. 

The unnamed victim agreed to press charges against Neeley following the beating. Neeley was arrested, charged with assault and transported to the Logan County Jail without further incident.
