Bellefontaine Intermediate School third-graders recently performed their music program titled “Get in the Game” in the BHS Auditorium.
Students dressed up in athletic attire and wore bright colored shirts ordered by their teachers.
The program told the story of a student named Joey (played by Rei Stamegna) who doesn’t believe there’s any sport she’ll be good at. Her friends keep encouraging her to try every sport to find which one suits her best.
The show is based on the first day of classes and the students have heard there’s a new, mean gym teacher. They eventually discover that the custodian/gym teacher, Mr. Baxter (played by Noah Erickson), is encouraging all the students to find the champion inside of them and to always do their best and try new things.
The final song, “I’m a Champion,” featured all the students doing sign language on the chorus.
The third-graders found different ways to “shine” throughout the show as they tried both traditional and alternative sports, such as baseball, basketball, football, soccer, bowling, golf, roller blading, and skateboarding.
The performers got to sing solos, sing with small groups, act out sports, and learn seven songs for their program.
The show was directed by BIS music teacher Darcy Neeld.
The sound system and lights were handled by Jere Daniels.
