A traffic stop early Thursday, May 1, lead to the arrest of an Urbana man for methamphetamine possession and other charges.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle make an erratic lane change about 2:05 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop in the 12200 block of State Route 235.
Deputies report the driver was moving about the car as if trying to hide something as they approached from the passenger side.
The driver, Kevin Engle, 54, made no eye contact with deputies and denied doing anything illegal inside the vehicle. Upon exiting the car, deputies noted Engle appeared sweaty and nervous and had constricted pupils.
Bellefontaine Police Department K-9 Pyro was brought to the scene and alerted law enforcement to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Engle then reportedly admitted that “meth” was located in the car’s center console.
A search of the vehicle yielded approximately four grams of rock crystalline substance in a plastic bag, which later tested positively as methamphetamine, and a glass pipe with brown residue.
The suspect was charged with possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
