Kevin Engle, 54, of Urbana, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, along with possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and trafficking in drugs during a Saturday, March 15, traffic stop.
Officers of the West Liberty Police Department conducted a traffic stop about 7:30 p.m. on a vehicle after observing multiple moving violations on U.S. Route 68 near State Route 508.
The driver, Engle, reportedly exhibited several signs of impairment and was taken into custody after failing the officer’s field sobriety tests.
While securing Engle in the officer’s patrol vehicle, a glass pipe commonly used for narcotics was found in his pocket. During an administrative inventory of the vehicle, a digital scale and a bag that was tested and identified as methamphetamine were discovered.
The defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to submit to a urine test. It was also determined that the bag found in his vehicle contained approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine. Engle was lodged in the jail.
