No citations were issued Tuesday, Nov. 12, following a traffic accident along State Route 235 near Lakeview involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
Franklin Hurley, 46, of Russells Point, was northbound just before 5 p.m. along the 12000 block of S.R. 235 in Stokes Township when he struck a bicyclist, Banty Kumar, 27, of Lakeview, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
The collision occurred shortly before sunset, a time when reduced visibility made it difficult for drivers to see, according to the report.
Kumar reportedly was riding on the shoulder of the road between the white fog line and the edge of the pavement. He was not wearing high-visibility clothing or using a rear flashing light, which could have improved his visibility to drivers, deputies said.
Hurley reported the setting sun was directly in his eyes at the time, obscuring his view of the cyclist. Deputies on the scene confirmed that bright sunlight in the area likely contributed to the incident.
No injuries were reported in the crash report. Hurley’s SUV sustained minor damage.
