A Bellefontaine man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the years-long sexual abuse of multiple children following a Tuesday, Nov. 12, sentencing hearing in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

Steven A. Fulmer Jr., 51, was sentenced by Judge Kevin P. Braig to consecutive 25 years-to-life prison terms following his conviction on seven counts of rape, first-degree felonies; and one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.

The abuse spanned years and involved three victims, with one case dating back to 2007. One of the victims was as young as four years old at the time of the offenses.

A Logan County jury delivered a guilty verdict Oct. 4 after deliberating for approximately five hours. Jurors also determined that Fulmer used force or threats of force to compel the victims to submit.

“He’s going where he belongs,” Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said. “In prison where he can no longer prey on children.”

He was originally indicted in December of 2023 after the mother of one of the victims reported the abuse to officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department. Judge Braig agreed with the prosecutor’s recommendation that the sentences be served consecutively because there were multiple victims.

No victim’s impact statements were read aloud during the hearing. Fulmer declined to speak prior to being sentenced.
