Joshua Bosley, 27, of Belle Center, was charged with impaired driving and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found asleep in his car around 5:15 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, in front of Speedway, 329 S. Main St.

Employees at the gas station contacted officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department to conduct a wellbeing check after having attempted unsuccessfully to wake him. When officers arrived they found a Bosley asleep in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with the engine running.

Police were eventually able to rouse the defendant who visibly disoriented and showed signs of impairment. He admitted to officers that he consumed alcohol hours earlier but that he was not intoxicated.

Field sobriety tests were attempted, but were not successful. A search of his vehicle turned up a glass pipe containing a white powdery substance, officers report. Bosley was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was issued a summons and released to a sober driver. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Motorist transported from Gunntown Road crash

Karen R. Downing, 53, of Bellefontaine was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries sustained in a crash about 6:05 p.m. Thursday.

Officers report Oliver Thornburg, 16, of Bellefontaine, was operating a northbound Dodge Dart on an access road in front of WalMart, 2281 S. Main St., and stopped at the stop sign at Gunntown Road.

He then started to make a left turn onto Gunntown Road and failed to yield to a southbound Honda CR-V in the intersection operated by Downing.

The two vehicles struck each other in the front in an angled fashion, officers said.

Oliver did not report any injuries and was cited for failure to yield while turning. Damage was heavy to the sport utility vehicle and moderate to the car. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
