Ryann Maples, 22, of Bellefontaine, was charged with impaired driving, possession of an open container and for speeding following a 2:24 a.m. traffic stop executed Sunday, Oct. 20, by deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office along State Route 117 just north of Huntsville.
Deputies on patrol observed a white Cadillac operated by the defendant traveling north on Lima Street at a high rate of speed. Radar indicated the motorist was traveling 47 through the posted 35 mph zone and then accelerated to speeds near 78 mph as he exited the village limits northbound on S.R. 117.
Deputies followed the motorist and initiated the stop. Upon making contact with Maples, an open can of beer was observed in the center console of the vehicle. Signs of impairment were observed and deputies report Maples provided inconsistent and incoherent answers to basic questions.
Field sobriety tests were attempted, but were not successful. He was transported to the Logan County Jail and agreed to submit to a urine sample. He was cited for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, possession of an open container and for speeding and was released to a sober driver.
