Vandalism, theft from vehicles reported at Super 8

A series of vehicle break-ins have been reported at the Super 8 Motel, 1117 N. Main St., on Wednesday, Oct. 16, with multiple vehicles targeted.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to the motel early Thursday, Oct. 17, and collected reports from six victims that had awaken to find windows on their vehicle shattered and several items missing.

The estimated value of the stolen items is around $615, with the most significant theft being a 9mm Springfield Hellcat pistol.

Officers were called to the motel at approximately 5:15 a.m. and quickly noticed that several vehicles had been broken into, with windows busted out and personal belongings missing. Stolen items included passports, a purse with debit cards and cash, lunch boxes, and prescription glasses. One victim’s 9mm pistol was taken, and the firearm was entered  as stolen into the LEADS database.

Security camera footage from the motel showed a black Chevy sedan entering the parking lot without its headlights at around 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 16. Four individuals exited the vehicle and were seen moving through the lot, breaking windows and going through several vehicles.

A similar vehicle break-in report was filed just 20-30 minutes earlier in Marysville, officers report.
