Key Paul Jenkins, 52, of Bellefontaine, was cited Tuesday, Sept. 24, for driving under suspension and for failing to stop at a red light following a two-vehicle crash that occurred around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Chillicothe Avenue.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report Jenkins was eastbound on west Chillicothe Avenue when he failed to yield at the stop light and pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Brent Swartz, 55, of Bellefontaine. Swartz reportedly attempted to brake but slid on the wet roadway and struck the Jenkins vehicle.

Jenkins said the vehicle belonged to his roommate who was asleep when Jenkins drove it from their residence to Bellefontaine Municipal Court to pay a court fine. He also told officers his mind was elsewhere at the time of crash and said he treated the intersection like a stop sign and proceeded on through before the light turned green.

Officers also learned that Jenkins did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported. Damage was minor to both vehicles.
