A fire that started around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, destroyed the residence at 779 Humble Dr., DeGraff.
Residents Jordan and Megan Boyer and their two children — both Riverside Elementary students —escaped the fire and were not physically harmed.
A bystander was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and later transported by private vehicle to a hospital, DeGraff firefighters said.
The Boyers owned several cats, at least one of which reportedly perished in the blaze. Two other cats — Haze, all black in color and Spark, all white — are missing, according to a family Facebook post.
The cause and origin of the blaze have yet to be determined.
Jordan’s grandfather and the home’s owner, James Boyer and his wife, were at the scene assisting their family members.
The one-story, three-bedroom home built in the early 1970s is believed to be a total loss. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
Heat from the fire warped and melted siding and blackened brick on neighboring homes.
Firefighters were still on scene as of 4 p.m.
The Boyer family, displaced by the fire, is reportedly staying with relatives.
Fire personal from Quincy, West Liberty, Indian Joint Fire District and Rosewood assisted the DeGraff Fire Department.
