From the flags lining the outside of the building to the red, white and blue table centerpieces to Amber Fagan’s flag-inspired shoes, Acheson’s Resort in Lakeview gave off a patriotic vibe on Thursday, Aug. 8, as residents and business owners welcomed Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) to a networking lunch.
The event opened with insurance updates from Steven Barth, owner of Hickory Medical, and a few words from Judge Jacob Estes. Fagan, Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce president, then reminded attendees about the annual Ring of Fire at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 1.
In addition, she said, the Chamber will work again with Pyrotecnico to create next year’s Independence Day fireworks, which will light the sky on July 6, 2025.
Following a lunch provided by Acheson’s, Fagan introduced Jordan.
The congressman dove right in by talking about the controversies surrounding the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump at a rally on July 13.
“They lied to us,” Jordan said about the testimony from the Secret Service immediately after the incident. He specifically mentioned how the agency initially denied the charge that they rebuffed requests by Trump’s team for added security detail. Then, less than a week later, they admitted that’s exactly what they did.
“We’ll investigate that in the days ahead.”
Jordan spoke briefly about Ohio Senator J.D. Vance and recent comments describing Vance as “weird.”
“Vance was raised in the humblest of circumstances. He became a senator and now he’s the vice president candidate. And he’s 40. That’s not weird. That’s the American dream.”
