Traffic stop results in drug arrest

Two women were arrested on drug and child endangering charges following a traffic stop initiated around 7:12 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, by officers of the Washington Township Police Department in the area of State Route 708 near Township Road 61.

Patricia Haas, 30, of Lakeview, was stopped for a violation of marked lanes while operating a Lewis Construction truck in that area. Officers also identified Penny Wilgus, 38, of Rushsylvania, and note that two small children were also present inside the vehicle.

Upon making contact with Haas and Wilgus, signs of drug use were observed. Wilgus was asked to exit the vehicle and when she did officers observed her drop a pipe used to consume crack cocaine onto the ground.

K9 Tega from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was deployed on the vehicle and indicated to the odor of illegal drugs. During a probable cause search, crack cocaine and fentanyl were located in purses belonging to Haas and Wilgus, officers report.

They were both taken into custody at that time and transported to the Logan County Jail. Logan County Children’s Services were contacted and the children were turned over to family members.

Wilgus was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and child endangering. Haas was charged with possession of drugs, child endangering, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and marked lanes violations.
