OVI, drug arrests logged

Byron Garcia, 34, of Guatemala, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for no driver’s license during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon, June 19.

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 3:35 p.m. State Route 274 near Township Road 94 conducted a traffic stop on Garcia marked lanes violation.

Upon making contact with the driver, signs of impairment were observed. He admitted to drinking prior to driving, submitted to field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest for OVI.

He was transported to the Logan County Jail and submitted to a breath test. He tested 0.270 BAC. He also was cited for marked lanes.

Drugs recovered from traffic stop

Steven Stacy, 46, of New Carlisle, was charged with possession of drugs and tampering with evidence during a traffic stop Wednesday.

About 7:15 p.m., officers were on patrol on State Route 235 near County Road 91 and conducted a traffic stop on Stacy for a speed violation.

Upon making contact with Stacy, signs of drug use were observed. He was asked to exit the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, officers reportedly observed a methamphetamine pipe in plain view.

As officers were beginning a probable cause search, Stacy was observed removing a bag of methamphetamine from his person. He threw the bag on the ground, stepped on it and attempted to kick it under the officers cruiser.

Stacy was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
