Wickline, Ross re-elected to lead Indian Lake BOE

The Indian Lake Board of Education elected officers and set their schedule for the year during their organizational meeting Thursday evening, Jan. 11.

Gabe Wickline was unanimously voted board president for the eighth year in a row. Chad Ross was chosen to serve as vice president for the seventh year. District Treasurer Coleen Reprogle administered the oaths of office.

The board considered and passed several annual housekeeping items to begin the new year and went into executive session to discuss applicants for the one vacant board seat.

Five members of the community expressed their interest in the seat, after longtime board member Scott Staley’s petition to run again in November was rejected by the Logan County Board of Elections due to a slight error.

Board members will vote to fill that seat during January’s regular meeting, slated for 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22.

The board scheduled the following meeting dates for the coming year (listed below), with most meetings to be conducted the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., all in the Indian Lake Board Office: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12, (Monday); 6:30 p.m. March 18 (Monday); 6:30 p.m. April 11(Thursday); 6:30 p.m. May 20 (Monday); 6:30 p.m. June 17 (Monday); 6:30 p.m. July 15 (Monday); 5 p.m. Aug. 19 (Monday); 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 (Wednesday); 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 (Monday); 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 (Monday);and 5 p.m. Dec. 16 (Monday).

In other action, the board:
• approved a number of standing authorizations for the superintendent and the treasurer;
• recognized the Indian Lake Education Association (ILEA) and the Indian Lake Association of Classified Employees (ILACE) as employee bargaining units;
• approved the annual funding of the Board Flower Fund to be used for sympathy flowers/gifts/donations for death of school employees, employees’ immediate family members; and for employee hospitalization and birth/adoption of employees’ children as 20 percent (or the percentage amount agreed to by the superintendent and the principals) of each building’s picture commission money;
• established a Board Service Fund in the amount of $15,000;
• recognized the following constant school affiliated groups for their service to the school and for the purpose of securing liability insurance: Indian Lake Athletic Boosters, Indian Lake Music Boosters, Indian Lake FFA Alumni Chapter, and the Indian Lake Elementary School P.T.O.; and
• designated the Bellefontaine Examiner as the official newspaper of record and that WPKO be designated as the official radio station of record; while noting the excellent coverage from the radio station out of Russells Point.
