BCS board reviews District Report Card

Bellefontaine City Schools Executive Director of Instructional Services Shanel Henry presented the district’s state report card to the board of education at their Monday evening meeting, Oct. 9, outlining strengths and areas in need of improvement.

BCS earned an overall score of 3.5 out of 5. Gap closing and the graduation rate were two highlights.

Gap closing was the district’s best category, and BCS scored a 5 out of 5. This measures a student’s own growth from one year to the next.

In addition, the weighted graduation rate was 95.8 percent.

Several personnel items were approved by the board.

Candace Wagner and Karen Rader were hired as intervention specialists. Rader is a retire/rehire.

Rosalind Brown, Linda McQuinley, Joni Siler, Phil Forsythe, Alex Burton, Lilie Elliott and Polly Rodenhausen were hired as substitutes. Brown, McQuinley, Siler, and Forsythe are substitute teachers on special assignment.

One-year contracts were approved for the following service and support personnel — Alex Burton, Joanna Eaton, Cassidy Hicks, Tawnya Irick, Erica Morris, Jordan Vermillion, educational aides; and Hunter Siler, maintenance worker.
Kristy McKirahan was hired as a tutor for home/in-school instruction.
Alex Burton, Joanna Eaton, Cassidy Hicks, Tawnya Irick, Erica Morris, and Jordan Vermillion were hired as educational aides.
Hunter Siler was hired as a maintenance worker.

Members accepted the resignations of Alyssa Brown and Anette Sidders, educational aides, effective Sept. 21 and Sept. 15, respectively.

The following supplemental coaching contracts were approved: Henry Stolly, high school boys head basketball; Zach Showalter, assistant high school boys basketball (freshman, junior varsity, and varsity);

Sean Egler, junior varsity boys basketball; Drew Jackson, freshman boys basketball; Caleb Mitchell, eighth-grade boys basketball; Mike Mosbarger, seventh-grade boys basketball; Tom Rose, middle school boys basketball assistant; Jeremiah Vigansky, seventh-grade girls head basketball.

The board also approved two volunteer coaches: Josh Jones, high school boys basketball; Meredith Richters, high school swim.

Members approved salary adjustments for additional training for Michelle Rohrer to master’s plus 18.

Barb Triplett was hired as an athletic worker.

The board increased the trip rate for substitute bus drivers to $16.75/hour.

Finally the board recognized the September and October Seniors of the Month with an achievement pin and a $15 gift card to Ron’s Pizza: September — Ashton Carey and Jack Varner; October — Austin Hammond and Emily Taylor.

The next board meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in the Distance Learning Center.
