Adam R. Rutan, 28, of North Lewisburg, was charged with menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony, relating to a complaint investigated by deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Sept. 4.

Deputies responded about 1:30 a.m. to a residence in Middleburg on a report from a female victim, who said the defendant was stalking her.

The victim told deputies that she had seen Rutan in Urbana when she was leaving a fast food restaurant about 12:40 a.m., and then she spotted him driving by her house after she arrived back home.

She showed deputies video footage of Rutan driving by an alley near her house. Deputies also listened to a phone call, reportedly from the defendant, where he made threats to harm her involving a firearm.

Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office located Rutan at his residence and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Logan County Jail.

Deputies said the defendant has a history of calls with the same victim, including previous reports for menacing, domestic violence and burglary. The victim also filed a report with the Dublin Police Department July 30 for a similar incident.
