Joseph Kielman, 38, of Bellefontaine, was charged with drunk driving, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and possession of marijuana following an interaction with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department that occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8.
Police were dispatched to the Taco Bell restaurant, 1500 S. Main St., on a report of a possibly impaired driver. Officers were provided with a description of the vehicle and a partial license plate. Upon their arrival, officers identified the suspect’s vehicle idling in a handicap parking spot.
Kielman was observed eating a burrito and fresh vomit was found inside the vehicle, along with empty beer bottles and another still open.
Kielman initially denied any level of impairment, but later admitted to having consumed the beers, as well as multiple shots of liquor at a bar in Lima.
Field sobriety tests were not successful and the defendant was taken to the police department.
A search of the vehicle revealed suspected marijuana, including roaches and a THC cartridge.
A breath test showed a blood-alcohol content of .119. He was issued the citations and released to a sober driver.
