Virgil Hinkle, 60, of Bellefontaine, was arrested for public intoxication after he stumbled across the street around 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, into the path of a cruiser operated by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Police were on patrol in the area of west Sandusky Avenue near Green Street when Hinkle reportedly attempted to cross the road and staggered into the path of the officer’s cruiser.
Police made contact with Hinkle and immediately detected the door of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Hinkle was also unsteady on his feet and slurring his words. He was detained and lodged in the Logan County Jail for his own safety.
