Motorcyclist transported from crash near Old Field Beach

Jason D. Richter, 37, of Lakeview, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries sustained in a crash involving his motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle Saturday afternoon, June 3.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Patricia K. Steffey, 79, of Russells Point, was operating a westbound 2008 Chevrolet Equinox about 3:50 p.m., leaving Old Field Beach, 11252 State Route 235. She reportedly made a turn onto State Route 235 and her SUV was struck by a northbound 2018 Harley Davidson operated by Richter.

Steffey did not report any injuries and she was cited for failure to yield. Deputies said she was wearing a seat belt, but Richter reportedly was not wearing a helmet.

Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene.

• Driver Faith A. Yarger, 46, of Marysville, and her passengers, Tammy S. Love, 64, of Bellefontaine, and a 1-year-old child were transported by Rushcreek, Tri-Valley andBMRT EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital following a one-vehicle crash Saturday evening.
Yarger and Love sustained suspected minor injuries, and no injuries were reported for the child, deputies said.

Yarger reportedly was operating a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado about 6 p.m. in the 3500 block of County Road 9 when she drove off the left side of the road into the ditch. She then reportedly drove through a fence and into a tree line.

Damage was heavy to the pickup, which was towed from the scene. The adults were wearing their seat belts and the child was properly restrained in a child safety seat, deputies said.

Woman charged with aggravated trespassing

Beth A. Church, 48, of Bellefontaine, was charged with aggravated trespassing and aggravated menacing Saturday related to an incident at her neighbor’s residence on Township Road 179.

Deputies responded to the residence about 6 p.m. and spoke to the property owners, who stated that Church had made threats against them while holding a hammer in her hand. Church was told to leave the property and she did at that time.

Deputies went to Church’s address to look for her, but did not located her at that time. However, deputies were called back to the neighbor’s residence about 8:30 p.m. on a report of Church being at the residence again, reportedly holding a gas can while screaming.

The defendant was not at the residence when deputies arrived, but she was located sitting in a vehicle in her own driveway. She told deputies that she wanted to go to the hospital because her foot was bleeding.

She was transported by Tri-Valley EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital. After being treated and released, she was transported to the Logan County Jail.

OVI charge filed

Zachary A. Carlson, 31, of Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop early Monday morning, June 5.

Deputies on patrol on State Route 235 near Parker Drive observed a speed violation with his vehicle about 12:20 a.m. and initiated the stop just inside the Hardin County line on S.R. 235.

While speaking with Carlson, deputies observed that he displayed signs of impairment. He exited his vehicle when requested by deputies and then refused to submit to field sobriety tests.

Carlson was placed under arrest without incident and was transported to the jail, where he refused to take a breath test. He was also cited for speed and was released to a sober person.

Man jailed for disorderly conduct

Timothy D. Hines, 20, of Lakeview, was charged with disorderly conduct related to an incident early Sunday morning, June 4.

Deputies were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. to Indian Lake EMS station, 280 N. Oak St., Lakeview, in reference to a man screaming in the street, possibly armed with a gun or knife.

When deputies arrived, they found Hines visibly upset and stumbling in the intersection of Stephenson and north Oak streets.

He was asked to stop moving and show deputies his hands. Deputies conducted a pat down search of his person and did not locate any weapons. However, deputies stated he had an “overwhelming odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and body.”

He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
