The Benjamin Logan Board of Education approved the hiring of long-time social studies teacher Scott Vermillion as the new head boys basketball coach at a special meeting Tuesday evening, May 30.
Vermillion has been a teacher in the district for 19 years and will start the new school year teaching high school government after 19 years at the middle school.
He previously served as head coach in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
“Being a lifetime Ben Logan community member, I am looking forward to helping student athletes become better basketball players and members of the community,” Vermillion said.
“Coach Saylor really cared about his players and worked hard to build a family environment, and I hope to build on a setting that creates a positive team environment. The coaching staff has tough shoes to fill, and our hope is that our players continue to improve over the summer.”
Activities Director Beau Harmon said Coach Vermillion “brings a lot to the table.
“He has been a long time teacher here at Benjamin Logan, and coincidentally has had every basketball player in his class at some point in his career.
“He has a fantastic relationship with our kids and is a great role model. Coach Vermillion has experience as an assistant and head Basketball Coach here at Benjamin Logan.
“He brings vast knowledge and emphasizes fundamentals and accountability to our basketball players. We are looking forward to what he will accomplish and are excited to see what he and his new coaching staff can accomplish in upcoming years.”
