UPDATE as of 4:30 p.m. May 4: Crews have restored service to the failed pump, which caused the water supply issue this morning.
Water is currently being pumped and restored to the standpipe at Campbell Hill at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, Bellefontaine Service-Safety Director Wes Dodds reports.
“Thanks to quick action by city crews, proactive measures and residents conserving water, the system never lost pressure, which in turn avoided the issuance of a boil advisory,” Dodds said.
The water issues forcing school closures on Thursday, May 4, are a supply issue – not a water main break, city officials report.
A pump has failed that feeds the standpipe at Campbell Hill (Ohio Hi-Point), which pressurizes an area of the east side of the city.
Currently, there has been no reported depressurization of the water system, so a boil alert has not been issued. City crews are working to correct the problem as soon as possible to avoid a loss of pressure in the system. Residents can help by conserving and limiting water usage until the problem is corrected.
If consumers notice a loss of water pressure, they are asked to repot this to the City Utilities office at 937-592-3561. In addition, if you do experience a loss in pressure, you should begin boiling water for at least 5 minutes prior to consumption.
The City is in communication the EPA and Logan County Health District as we work towards correcting the problem, and if a boil alert is becomes necessary, there will be an additional press release.
