OVI charges filed in crash by East Liberty plant

Curtis S. Wilgus, 37, of West Mansfield, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a two-vehicle injury crash Sunday evening, April 23, by the entrance to the Honda of America plant at East Liberty, 11000 State Route 347, East Liberty.

The second driver in the crash, Lucas J. Majewski, 39, of Temperance, Mich., was transported by Perry Township EMS to Memorial Hospital in Marysville, for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in the crash, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.

Wilgus did not report any injuries.

Deputies report Wilgus was operating an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet 3500 on State Route 347 about 10:45 p.m. when he failed to stop at a red light by the plant, striking a northbound 2006 Buick Lucerne operated by Majeswski.

Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, deputies said.

Upon arrival on the scene, deputies spoke with Wilgus nearby his vehicle, who showed signs of impairment and had an odor of alcohol on his person. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol, Wilgus stated that he had not and also refused to submit to field sobriety tests.

A search of Wilgus’ vehicle also revealed several open containers of alcohol. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he was also cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, and expired registration.

While speaking with Majewski, he told deputies that the other vehicle appeared “seemingly out of nowhere” what to appeared to be at a high rate of speed.

Driver transported from U.S. 33 crash

Beatrix J. Silberstein, 68, of Hillard, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a crash Tuesday, April 25, in Lakeview, involving her semi tractor-trailer and a car.

Deputies report Karen S. Wilson, 79, of Lakeview, was operating a northbound 2014 Toyota Corolla About 1 p.m. on Lake Street and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 33.

Her vehicle was struck by an eastbound semi operate by Silberstein.

Wilson did not report any injuries and she was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Damage was heavy to the car and moderate to the semi.

Woman charged with criminal trespass

Beth A. Church, 47, of Bellefontaine, was charged with criminal trespass related to an incident Tuesday at an address along Township Road 179, Bellefontaine.

Deputies responded about 8:35 p.m. to a report of a suspicious person at the address. A resident report to deputies that a woman was sitting on a bench in the backyard and that the woman might be impaired.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with Church in the backyard, who they noted was pacing around in the flower garden area. She told deputies that she was looking at the creek area and that it looked “pretty.”

Deputies said in the past two weeks, they have received approximately six other reports of the defendant being in other people’s yards in the neighborhood.

Church advised deputies that she had a syringe in her pocket and deputies located the syringe, which was placed into evidence.

She was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
