A suspect charged with resisting arrest and fighting with officers during an altercation with law enforcement has pleaded guilty to a drug-related charge.
Alexandra Helman, 29, of Bellefontaine, pleaded guilty Friday, Feb. 17, to a third-degree felony count possession of hashish.
In addition to the drug charge, she was originally charged March 20, 2022 with felony counts of assault and harassment with a bodily substance following an incident with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Police, responding to reports that she was intoxicated, initially found Helman stumbling between a residence and a tall bush near the intersection of Newell and Spring Avenue.
She was visibly intoxicated and had several cans of alcoholic beverage in the pockets of her clothing.
Helman agreed to go to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment and observation but opened one of the cans of alcohol to quickly consume before going. Officers had instructed her she could not consume the beverage and took her into custody.
She resisted efforts to handcuff her or walk her to a cruiser. Officers took her to the cruiser and placed in the rear seat.
Officers report she tried to unbuckle herself; slammed her head into the front and the rear plexiglass partitions; and began kicking and screaming.
She reportedly tried to bite an officer and spat in his face as police moved to hobble her.
She was transported to the Logan County Jail and placed in a restraint chair.
Nearly 34 grams of liquid hashish was found in the defendant’s purse at the time of her arrest.
She will be sentenced March 23.
• Gregory Hill, 37, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced Friday, Feb. 17, to three years’ community control for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, as well a misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
A September indictment handed up by a Logan County Grand Jury also included a second-degree felony count of abduction.
