This year’s Indian Lake High School musical is a timeless favorite with historical significance.
The cast and crew will present The Music Man Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, in the Wilma Jacobs Performing Arts Auditorium at Indian Lake High School beginning at 8 p.m.
“The Music Man was a perfect fit for this year’s large group of senior cast members,” explained Indian Lake Vocal Music Teacher and Musical Director Tracey Notestine. “It has also been a bit of a history lesson for students as we explore the year 1912 in small town Iowa.”
When Harold Hill, a traveling con man, arrives in River City, he convinces the locals to start a band by purchasing the uniforms and instruments from him. His intention is to flee as soon as he receives the money.
Librarian Marian Paroo suspects Harold is a fraud, but holds her tongue since her moody brother, Winthrop, is excited about the band.
As Harold begins to develop feelings for Marian, he faces a difficult decision about skipping town. In the end, everyone in River City benefits from Hill passing through.
The production has a large cast featuring seniors Beau Young (Professor Harold Hill), Regan Ross (Librarian Marian Paroo), Mason Beres (Marcellus Washburn), Paige Mefford (Eulalie Shinn), Brant Parsell (Mayor George Shinn), Katelyn Pippin (Mrs. Paroo), Sierra DeWeese (Alma Hix-Pick A Little Lady), Emma King (Mrs. Squires-Pick A Little Lady), Marah Reames (Ethel Toffelmaier-Pick A Little Lady) and Grace Pequignot (Maud Dunlop-Pick A Little Lady), along with juniors Burke Lillard (quartet), Grant McPherson (quartet), Brody Parsell (quartet), AdeLynn Martin (Zaneeta Shinn), and Hannah Metzger (Amaryllis). It also features sophomores Jayden Martin (Charlie Cowell) and Colten Corcoran (quartet) and introduces fifth-grader Kaiden Lacher (Winthrop Paroo).
This is the third time Indian Lake has presented The Music Man in school history.
Twenty-five years ago, in 1998, the IL Music department presented The Music Man as the first show hosted in the school’s new auditorium.
“The 25th anniversary of the Music Man at ILHS was the icing on the cake after I had decided on this show,” the director said. “It is a great way to celebrate Indian Lake musical productions from 1998, as well as 1972.”
Along with Director Notestine, the show is choreographed by Rebecca Taylor, with orchestra direction by Jason Fauley, sets by Ed Rogers, and lighting by Gabe Reichert.
