Bellefontaine City Schools’ robotics teams had a banner day at a large competition near Cleveland on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Seven teams from BCS competed in the Joseph and Joseph Vex Robotics Competition at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.
The high school event featured 35 teams from around the state. BHS was represented by Team 9185B-FOAM (Fearless of All Machines), with members Alex Cavanaugh, Ryann Gatchel, Lorenz Henry, Cody Hudson, Hayden Maus, and Mason Swisher.
The team fought hard and went on to compete in the afternoon.
Team 9185B-FOAM raised their skills scores and won the Inspire Award, which is presented to the team that inspires the judges with their approach to the Vex Robotics Program.
The team effectively communicated their passion for the program and maintained a positive attitude throughout the event, organizers said.
The middle school event featured 42 teams from across Ohio. BMS was represented by six teams.
Each BMS team had a successful morning and made it into the afternoon single-elimination tournament.
Team 7865 D Ancient Builders finished in fourth place. Team members are Shota Bello, Trinity Fout, Steven Fulmer, and Matthew Ressler.
Team 7865F Mr. Roboto’s Black Belts earned 17th place. The team features sixth-graders Greyson Huffman, Zoe Jervis, Chloe O’Chocke, and Cam Rutan.
Both teams won their first tournament round but were defeated in the quarterfinals.
Team 7865E-Excelle ended their day with a skills score of 128, which more than doubled their previous skills score. The team placed 23rd in the state. Team members include Brody Miranda, Addison Prosser, Cody Robb, Dalton Frazier, and Lillian Achor.
Sandi Chervenak and Jordan Reser are the co-advisers of the VEX Robotics Club at BHS and BMS.
