Suspect lodged for firing weapon

BellefontainePolice Patch-200Devan Driscol, 27, of Bellefontaine, was arrested and charged for firing a handgun in a city park during the early-morning hours of Monday, Jan. 30.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol in the area of north Elm Street and west Brown Avenue were approached around 4 a.m. by a man who reported the suspect had a weapon and was threatening to shoot him.

Driscol reportedly owed a named male suspect a sum of $300 and the two had an altercation over the money that occurred near the playground equipment at Oakland Square Park.

The suspect was reportedly brandishing the gun, waving it around before firing a shot into the ground.

Officers report that dispatch had also received a call of a reported shot fired in the vicinity around the same time as Driscoll was alleged to have fired the weapon.

The suspect initially denied having a weapon, but later admitted to officers he discarded the gun on the ground in the area of 230 west Brown Avenue. The 9mm handgun was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber and 13 rounds in the magazine.

Driscol was has a prior felony conviction that dates to 2008, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm. He was charged with having weapons under disability and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
