Memorial Day ceremonies, parades planned

• Bellefontaine — Monday, May 27, 9 a.m., parade leaves the American Legion Post 173, 120 Colton Ave., and heads to the Bellefontaine Cemetery for a ceremony; featured speaker: Tim Deardorff. 

• East Liberty — Monday, May 27, 10 a.m. ceremony, East Liberty Cemetery, hosted by Wood-Rosebrook Post of the American Legion and the Perry Township Trustees; featured speaker: Dr. Jason Robson; Tyler J. Hall also shares information on this year’s 2024 East Liberty Hometown Heroes, a pair of service members from World War I and World War II. 

• Lakeview — Monday, May 27, annual Amvets Post 39 Memorial Day Parade, parade line-up, Emil Davis Park beginning at 10 a.m.; parade starts at 11 a.m. and runs from State Route 720, to State Route 235 and through downtown Lakeview; following the parade, memorial service is conducted in the Amvets parking lot; for more information or to sign up for the parade, contact the Amvets Post 39 at (937) 843-5641 or Stacey Alexander at (937) 935-6758. 

• Rushsylvania — Service begins at 9 a.m. Monday, May 27, Rushsylvania Village Park, hosted by Rushsylvania Lions Club; master of ceremonies: Lions Club President George Clayton, who will also lay the memorial flowers; Pastor April Phillips offers opening prayer; featured speaker: Air Force Chief Master Sargent veteran Mike Wroten; Benjamin Logan Middle School Band performs patriotic music and Taps; take lawn chairs. 

• West Liberty — Monday, May 27, Memorial Day parade begins at 2 p.m. at the old high school and ends at the West Liberty Town Hall; ceremony to follow featuring high school band, 21-gun salute; Taps; and a benediction provided by a local pastor. 

• West Mansfield —  Service begins at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, West Mansfield Conservation Clubhouse, 701 S. Main St.; Little Miss Poppy Belle Sadler honored, music by the community choir; speaker: Pastor Jack Knox; salute to our departed veterans by the American Legion Post 603 honor guard; ceremony sponsored by American Legion Post 603, West Mansfield. 

• 84th Annual Zane Township Memorial Day Parade — Monday, May 27, 11 a.m. in Middleburg, line up begins at 10 a.m. at the township building on the corner of county Roads 152 and 153 and will proceed to the cemetery for the Memorial Day ceremony; prizes awarded for best costume, best decorated bike, ATV, Garden Tractor or go-cart, and float; all Zane Township Veterans are invited to ride on the veterans float in the parade; guest speaker: Senior Master Sergeant Jason M. Hardman.
