Yoder re-elected BCS board president

Colin Yoder was re-elected to lead the Bellefontaine Board of Education as president at the first board meeting of the year Monday evening, Jan. 13, at the Bellefontaine High School Sloan Distance Learning Center.

Mark Fissel also was re-elected board vice president at the board’s organizational meeting.

Members approved their meeting schedule for 2025. Board meetings will be conducted Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, Aug. 11, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8.

Each monthly meeting will be conducted in the Distance Learning Center at 6:30 p.m.

The Bellefontaine Examiner and WPKO Radio were designated as the official media outlets of the school district.

Kristen Lang was appointed the Ohio School Boards Association delegate for 2025. Bryn Daring-Stewart will be the OSBA alternate for this year.

After the organizational meeting adjourned, the board conducted its regular monthly meeting.

January is School Board Appreciation Month in Ohio. Superintendent Brad Hall thanked the board members for their service and expertise, and each board member was presented with 20 greeting cards made by BCS students.

In personnel, members accepted the retirement of longtime Bellefontaine Intermediate School secretary Audrey Hess. Her final day will be July 1.

In other action, the board:

  • approved five extended days for Trevor Woods in media production;
  • appointed Bess Standley, Joni Siler and Tamara Schneider as home/school tutors;
  • hired Tonja Reed as a bus driver and Tayteum Vigansky as an athletic worker;
  • accepted the resignations of educational aides Ryan Holycross, Amy Payne, and Stephen Buckingham;
  • extended following supplemental contracts: Sharon Lewis, Head High School Swim; Johnny Boling Maurice, Assistant High School Boys Wrestling; Laura Mitchell, High School/Middle School/Elementary School Orchestral Music; Ella Costin, High School Percussion;
  • appointed Lynda Holycross to the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board, for a term that runs through 2027;
  • approved the monthly financial reports and curriculum for the 2024-25 school year; and
  • approved a resolution to administer the 3rd Grade ELA Assessment Test on paper or online; and a resolution to implement the written policies and procedures approved by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce regarding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.

The next board meeting is 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Distance Learning Center.
