Riverside Junior High seventh-grader Isabella Yelton correctly spelling “fluke” in the 14th round of the spelling bee contest at her school Tuesday, Dec. 12, to become the spelling bee champion.
Eighth-grader Kyle Winfrey was the runner-up.
Eleven students in grades 7-8 competed in the bee.
Both Kyle and Isabella have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre, set for 6 p.m. Jan. 16.
Isabella also will take an online spelling and vocabulary test to advance toward the Scripps Spelling Bee.
