Julie Hoberty, 60, of Bellefontaine, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 15, on charges of theft and obstructing official business after police investigated a stolen vehicle report.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. to a residence in the 700 block of north Main Street.

The victim reported that Hoberty had taken their 2004 Cadillac Deville earlier that morning without permission. According to the victim, the car keys were left on a table inside the residence, and Hoberty took the car without asking. Despite the victim’s repeated requests for the vehicle’s return throughout the day, Hoberty reportedly refused and made threats, including that she would drive the car into the house.

The victim also informed police that Hoberty had taken another vehicle from their property the previous day, returning it early Wednesday morning and appearing intoxicated.

During the investigation, Hoberty was contacted by phone, where officers noted her slurred speech. She initially claimed the car was at a trailer park near Mad River Mountain, but officers eventually determined that to be false. Hoberty was eventually located along with the stolen car at a residence on County Road 9.

Hoberty was arrested at the scene and transported to the Logan County Jail. Law enforcement noted that Hoberty appeared intoxicated at the time of her arrest and provided conflicting accounts of her actions throughout the day.

The victim expressed concern for Hoberty’s well-being, citing a history of alcohol-related incidents. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the victim was informed of its location.
