Masyn Wilson correctly spelled the “phantom” to become the champion of the Bellefontaine Middle School spelling bee Friday afternoon, Dec. 6.
Kyler Vollrath was runner-up for the competition, which went for 16 rounds in the school gymnasium.
Thirty fifth-graders competed in the bee, and fellow fifth-graders along with family members were spectators.
Both Masyn and Kyler have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre at 6 p.m. Jan. 14.
Masyn will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee. He is a son of Timothy and Ashlee Wilson.
Kyler is the son of Ben and Jacey Vollrath.
Lindy Martin was the moderator at BIS.
Angie Horvath and Katie Davis were the judges.
