Kayla Tracey, who has a rich heritage of family farming in Logan County, won Grand Champion with her Market Goat named Wilson.
She was tearful as the judge pointed at her for the win.
“I feel very excited and surprised. I just cannot believe this happened,” the Indian Lake sixth-grader stated with smiles.
She was first place in her middle-weight Market Goat division. Kayla is part of Miami Valley Producers 4-H group, and this is her third year of showing in the ring.
“I wish to thank my mom, my dad, the Shroyer sisters, and my Grandpa Steve,” she said proudly.
Winning Reserve Grand Champion for her heavy-weight goat named Topper, short for Top-Notch, was Jaidyn Jackson. Jaidyn is an incoming senior at Riverside High School, and she has been a member of 4-H for 9 years. She will have two more years to show her animals.
She had won so many ribbons during the entire goat show, and she excitedly said, “ I wasn’t expecting to win this big, today.”
Jaidyn, who is a member of the Riverside Hustlers 4-H group, used Top-Notch Show Stock to find her perfect show goat.
“We looked for a good, structured goat that you could build and put muscle on to really dominate the show,” she explained.
Jaidyn’s hard work paid off.
“I worked really hard here in the barn and at home,” she said.
