William F. “Bill” Appel, 74, of Russells Point, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, in The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born in Reading, Ohio on January 12, 1950, the son of the late William Fredrick and Lois (Brettschneider) Appel.

He is survived by a stepson, Josh (Leah) Dickinson of Eugene, Oregon, a stepdaughter, Sarah (Steve) Neff of Harrisburg, NC, and four step grandchildren: Kasper Dickinson, Grace Neff, Emily Neff, and Lucy Neff.

Bill worked in radio for many years and was one of those announcers from the golden era of AM radio. He worked at V-Teck Communications as the first morning show host on 1390 WBLL between 1988 and 1994. He also co-hosted the inaugural Shopping Show on January 30, 1993.  Radio was his life; he tirelessly worked behind the mic, spinning records with his booming voice. He was part of WCIT Lima’s AM Country station, where all the announcers reigned supreme on the airwaves. He later went to work for Logan County Children’s Services.  He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing.

There are no services planned at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Logan County Children’s Services, 117 E. Columbus St., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
