Crews from the West Liberty Fire Department extinguish a large barn fire Monday, Nov. 13, that started around 2:12 p.m. in a barn in the 6200 block of State Route 287 just outside West Liberty. The barn and its contents were a total loss. It took first responders about two hours to contain the blaze and crews were on scene until well after 7 p.m. Initial dispatch reported heavy smoke and flames were visible from the structure. Upon arrival, crews found a fully engulfed large, heavy timber bank barn and shop with several nearby spot fires starting due to dry vegetation and high winds. Crews went into defensive attack on the structure and also began preventative measures to stop the fire from spreading to the residence. Fire and EMS crews from Tri-Valley and Perry Township assisted, along with Allen Township and Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS as well as Macochee Joint Ambulance District.
